Finally FlexiSkul was up at Nov 7th, 2007. It took almost 4 months to went up. It’s not about the system, but it’s about some internal problems. FlexiSkul was not using Telkom Flexi anymore since Telkom broke the agreement.

But FlexiSkul system is more intelligent now. It uses multiple modems for multiple operators. Okay, it will took more modems since one operator need one modem. But with this mechanism, FlexiSkul will cut the cost of sms since some operators apply the less cost for sending sms to the same operator numbers.

For example is 3 (three) and XL who charge no fee for sending sms to the same operators with some term and conditions. The other operators charge less for sending to the same operator than to other operators.

Blessing in disguise, hah?

I have been involved in FlexiSkul Project as System Developer. This project is for creating a SMS Notification System for Indonesian Schools. The main purpose of this system is for notifying student’s parent of their kids activities related to their school. The main functions of this system are:

1. Individual notification
2. Mass notification
3. Notify the presence of students
4. Notify the mark of the students

The system is nearly complete and will be launched soon.

I have 2 cellphones. One is Soner K610i and the other is N5200. These cellphones have two different methods for writing SMS. You have to select the recipient(s) then write the message in N5200 and send it after that. But in K610i, you write down the message first then select the recipient(s) before you send it.

I prefer to choose the N5200 way. It just like e-mail. You select the recipient(s), write the message and send the message.

I have been involved in some projects. They are Sisfo Kampus (2 projects, will be 3 in next month), ERP-MRP, and also conduct some training. The projects are running concurrently. One of the project is in Bandung and one is in Bangka that is overseas.

Although I’m not the project leader for the projects I still got very-very busy with them. I should plan and manage my time, brain and energy. Unfortunately I can not manage them correctly and “wisely.” I often spend my time, brain and energy for doing anything else and got very tired. Sometime I can not focus on my work as well. And the worse is I get bore with the code.

I think I need some rest and vacation. Fortunately, May 16th until 20th (almost 5 days) I planned to back to my new home in Semarang. Hope the vacation goes well. GBU.

I almost forget that I have this blog. This blog has been created for actualize myself especially in English since my other blogs are in Bahasa Indonesia.

Then I realized that I have so many blogs to maintain. Oh… how come I trapped into my blogs?

I have problem experience with JavaScript, especially for refreshing or loading pages in frames. For better illustrations, I put the scenario below.

I have a container page (Window1) and 2 frames on it. I used WinLIKE so they are not frames actually, but windows. Window2 is a menu window and Window3 is for the content. The Window3 is for displaying the content regarding which menu we choose in Window2 (menu). We can simply write a link in Window2 and target it to Window3.

But the problem comes when I need the fourth window (Window4) appear from Window3. Please see the image below.

The Window4 is a popup window for editing the value or content of Window3. As the editing finished, Window4 should update the content of Window3 and close itself. The first cycle is work perfectly. But when I navigate to the other link in Window2 (menu), the problem comes.

I can show up the Window4 via link/button from Window3. But when I finish editing, Window4 can not refresh the Window3 nor close itself. I though it was the broken “ownership” of the windows. Or the child-windows can not recognize the “parent” or “top” window. Yes, I finally believe the problem because of it. But why?

I don’t want to know how it comes because I have experience it on 2 different browser, IE and FF. So maybe the problem not comes from the browser, but from the Javascript.

Solving…

Finally after working and thinking sometimes, I can solve the problem. It’s trivia actually. But when I just a beginner for Javascript, I feel it as a big problem.

To keep the ownership or parenting of the frames/windows, I need to refresh, reload or loading URL on Window3 via Window1 (container). So, every link on Window2 (menu) that need change the content of Window3, it should always done via Window1 (container). I need some javascript function in Window1 to update Window3. The first is for refresh/reload the content of Window3 and the second is for changing the URL of window3. I should always call these functions from Window2 to change Window3.

And the Window3 can manage the popup (Window4) by itself without worry losing the parentship. And finally the popup window (Window4) can always update Window3 and close itself.

By now I’m very happy with the solution. My web-application works fine.

For this past 2 night, I almost didn’t sleep. It because I was trying WinLIKE intensively. It has a nice framework to make an ordinary web-based application almost like desktop application.
